Tattoos + Metal = KARMAgeddon

November 25, 2017

You may have seen her float gracefully among the Karmøygeddon crowd. Long wavy hair, dark sunglasses and arms covered in tattoos. Renathe works as a tattoo artist at one of the festival’s longest running sponsors.

Name: Renathe H. Bryn

Age: 34

From: Voss

Works at: Karma Tattoo

1. How did your interest for tattooing come about?

"I have been interested in tattooing for as long as I can remember. When I was 6 or 7 years old I saw a woman with a nose ring and a big dream catcher tattoo and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

I got my first tattoo when I was 16 on a school trip to England. I lied on my age. "

2. What led you to Karma Tattoo?

"I was a hairdresser before I became a tattoo artist. Luckily Dagfinn and Karma Tattoo gave me a chance and I became an apprentice. This is my dream job, and I have been working at Karma Tattoo for almost 10years."

3. Why is it that “metal” people often cover their bodies in tattoos? Is it “the law”?

"I think everything is about identity, to find yourself and show everyone who you are, and tattoos are damn sexy and cool! If it's a law, no, today it's often an equally big statement
not getting a tattoo."

4. Who comes to Karma for a tattoo?

"People of all ages from all societies and genders come here. Even though we do a lot of blasphemy and listen to metal music all day long."

5.  What is Amrak?

"Amrak is a very cool metal shop in the basement of Karma Tattoo.
You can purchase everything from vinyl, art and clothing."

6. Why sponsor Karmøygeddon?

"It is incredibly important to support music, art and culture in our city! We need it to survive!
Karmøygeddon is a festival with wonderfully talented people and a very special festival atmosphere.
Karmøygeddon makes Karma Tattoo happy! Especially when we get a lot of black metal!"

7. Do you often come across Karma tattoo work when you’re out and about?

"Yes actually...It's awesome! I'm lucky to meet so many nice people through my job."

8. What does Karmøygeddon mean to you?

"Karmøygeddon is an important weekend for me! It's a festival I do not miss out on. It's a weekend of fun."
